DISTRICT SAFEGUARDING POLICY

Important link to the Methodist Church Safeguarding Page

As the people of the Methodist Church in the North Lancashire District we are concerned with the wholeness of each individual within God's purpose for everyone. We seek to safeguard all members of the church community, of all ages. It is the responsibility of each one of us to prevent the physical, sexual or emotional abuse of all children and young people.

The Chair of the District draws the attention of all persons to the terms of the Standing Order 010, and directs that any and all desiring to take up any duty, responsibility or office indicated must comply with the terms of the Standing Order. The District Synod wishes to affirm and support all statements and policies of the Methodist Conference with regard to the policy and practice of the Church in matters of child protection. This policy and practice is now detailed in Safeguarding - a policy for good practice in the care of children and young people. It is recognised that this is a whole church issue and calls upon every member to take responsibility in these matters.

To support Churches in this the District Taking Care Group is available to provide training, support and advice. They can be contacted through the Training and Development Officer.

DISCLOSURES A new system, Disclosures, has been established by the government to support good practice in work with children, young people and vulnerable adults. The Criminal Records Bureau allows for police checks to be carried out on all those working in these areas in a voluntary as well as paid capacity.

The Churches Agency for Safeguarding has been set up in consultation with Churches Together in England to act as an umbrella body for Disclosures. The system will be placed in over a period of time and full support and information will be given to Churches through summer and early autumn.
